Gameplay Skills
At CRANK, we love gaming and supporting our CREW. If you face barriers such as autism, ASD or other psychosocial disorders, we’re here to help you develop awesome work, study and life skills while you game. Yep, you can do both at the same time!
Some of the world’s best game players are part of the CRANK coaching team. Every COACH is here to nurture and develop skills that will not only help you become better gamers, but also help you in all areas of life and career.
Communication Capabilities
In team-based gameplay, effective communication is essential. You’ll practise giving clear and concise callouts, relaying information about enemy positions, coordinating strategies and providing constructive feedback to teammates.
Strategy Development
COACHES help you to work in teams to analyse map layouts, identify advantageous positions, devise attack or defence strategies, and execute coordinated movements. You’ll practise discussing tactics, evaluating different approaches and adapting your strategies based on the evolving game situation.
Problem-Solving Scenarios
Your COACH will present specific in-game scenarios or challenges that require you to think critically and find solutions. This can involve coordinating a complex attack, defending against a well-coordinated opponent or adapting strategies in response to unexpected circumstances.
Role Rotation
You’ll take turns playing different roles within the game, such as entry fragger, support player or in-game leader. Doing this helps you understand the unique perspectives of each role, builds empathy for your teammates and encourages good teamwork.
Conflict Resolution
Your COACH will highlight where conflicts arise between teammates during gameplay. They’ll encourage you to practise resolving conflicts constructively, actively listening to others, finding common ground and finding mutually beneficial solutions. This promotes teamwork, empathy and effective communication.
Reflective Discussions
After gameplay sessions, you’ll always have a reflective discussion facilitated by the COACH. You’ll reflect on your own experiences, thinking about what you did well and areas for improvement, and discuss strategies that worked well. This is a skill that’s great to apply to real-life situations.
Community Building
Outside of formal sessions, CREW are encouraged to do other team building activities with the game, such as organising comps and tournaments. Communities like this give a sense of belonging, encourage positive social interactions, and provide opportunities for participants to just be themselves.
Emotional Regulation Exercises
Our COACHES will work with you to help manage your emotions and stress during gameplay. This may involve deep breathing techniques, mindfulness exercises, or talking about ways to maintain a positive mindset and resilience when things get hard.
Goal Setting
All our players work with our COACHES to set personal goals related to their game and other social development things. You’ll have specific objectives – such as improving communication, teamwork, or specific skills within the game. Regular check-ins and feedback will keep you accountable and on track.
Wellbeing & Stress Relief
It’s important to understand how gaming can affect you. Awareness about how certain games affect you is critical to understand. If it helps you de-stress – great. If it makes you stressed – we need to make a change.
Tapping into Academic Interest
Love a historical game? Maybe you also love history? Gaming can stimulate academic interests and areas of passion that should be explored further, and we’ll always encourage this.
